The 991 version of the beloved Porsche 911 has been replaced by a newer model, but its performance is still among the best driving experiences ever. Perfect balance, incredible grip levels, low center of gravity, tail-happy, but wonderfully controlled demeanor, powerful engines and lightning fast and smooth transmission all add up to something that cannot be erased by newer models.
The car we are presenting here is the Turbo version of the 911 991, the forced-induction monster with two variants.
The standard 911 Turbo produces 520 hp and 660 Nm of torque, while the Turbo S, serving as the more hardcore version of the 911 Turbo, goes up to 560 hp and 700 Nm of torque. Just enough to make a difference on the track, but did it justify the price tag difference in tens of thousands of dollars?
With our tuning, the standard 911 Turbo gets noticeably more power than the Turbo S for the portion of the price. Moreover, our upgrade for the 911 991 Turbo pushes its power rating over even the facelift version of the Turbo S.
Stage 1 Tuning for Porsche 911 991 Turbo
The OEM ECU in this vehicle is SDI9 and all the power gains from stage 1 come from the OEM ECU modifications. For the stage 1, we add no new parts at all. All we do is remap the software within the safe boundaries of the OEM parts and the results are stunning.
Stage 1 tuning for the Porsche 911 991 Turbo adds a significant amount of power and torque. The Porsche 911 Turbo now has 602 hp and 803 Nm of torque. That is a massive increase and one that gives more power than the Turbo S and the facelifted Turbo S have.
This achievement is even more amazing when we remember that there are no new parts installed, so the value for money of such a substantial power upgrade is incredible.
The improvements come from several steps in adjustment of the ECU software.
The first one includes an increase in turbo pressure that adds more air and a complementary increase in the amount of fuel that preserves the optimal air-fuel ratio. So, there is more to burn and it will burn more efficiently, which automatically means you will have more power.
The next step is a further increase in combustion efficiency that also brings improved throttle response. This is done by advancing ignition timing. This change is not a simple advancement to an arbitrary position, but actually a carefully measured change that prevents serious damage to the engine and makes the already amazing engine have a more immediate reaction to your pedal press.
The stage 1 tuning for this vehicle ends with a removal of the speed limiter which, combined with the power increase, pushes the sporty Porsche well past 200 mph (322 km/h).
So, what do we offer for stage 2?
Stage 2 Tuning for Porsche 911 991 Turbo
We add a different exhaust system for improved soundtrack, but also breathing of the engine. It is a unit produced by Akrapovic, which is lighter, more efficient and it sounds like a dream.
It also allows us to adjust the software a bit more, adding 15-20 hp more. This does not seem like much in terms of power, but it does make a difference in the way the car feels to drive.
More importantly for some of our customers with the taste for extreme modifications, it serves as a great basis for stage 3 tuning, which is a far more elaborate upgrade with more hardcore aftermarket parts that would be able to endure the extra pressures from a more powerful turbo and also that would enable the extra boost to show its full potential. Just some of the things the stage 3 brings are new turbocharger, new intake parts, new injectors and more hardcore engine internals.
Not many people are in need of stage 3 tuning, especially having in mind that the stage 1 alone already makes the 911 991 Turbo faster than the Turbo S. However, if you are one of those that need it, our tuning experts eagerly await.
